Deworming, tattooing, growth implantation, vaccinating, and surgical castration of calves
7 March 2009
Page one of four
A long, hot, and dusty day begins in the cow pens to work the remaining herds missed on 19 & 20 February 2009. This herd is penned and the calves parted out.
With the cows and bulls parted out, the calves are examined, above right, to see which will be surgically castrated and which will be kept as bulls.
The entire herd is run through the chutes and dewormed.
All the calves are vaccinated and calves without an ear tag are marked with orange spray paint. Rob Tripson tattoos the calf's ear ear with its number, while, in the background, growth implants are injected into the opposite ear.

Besides being tattooed, above left and right, any calf without an ear tag is given a new one, left.
