Weaning Bull Calves
14 August 2008
The first three images below, taken during a cloudy, dark sunset, show the bull calves halfway through their internment in the cattle pens to wean them from their mothers. Note the troughs of high-protein feed, their only food in the pens aside from hay, to break them from their mother's milk.
A small group of cows, above, still show feelings for their offspring and are reluctant to leave them. The rest of the cow herd have lost interest over the intervening couple of days and have returned on their own to their pasture.
The bull calves hoping for an early release.
